In order to provide the high level of service we strive for, we constantly seek highly effective team members. Once engaged, we carefully mentor and motivate each member to continue to improve and grow.

JDSA partners, associates, and professional staff require a balanced life and a clear mind. Our comprehensive benefits address retirement, insurance, profit sharing and time off, to enrich the lives of every JDSA team member.

JDSA offers partner opportunities to eligible associates between two and six years, based on the associate's level of experience. From a starting associate, to a lateral hire, we engage a systematic path to enhancing long-term success.

JDSA proudly takes a strong leadership role with associates. Our firm offers a well-rounded associate program beginning with summer associates, and progress, under mentorship, to a deeper involvement with the firm.

JDSA is always looking for talented individuals. We actively seek attorneys, paralegals, and potential administrative team members who will contribute to our high-quality brand of service we provide to our clients.

Comprehensive Benefits

JDSA offers employees a solid benefits package. Key benefits include:

Health Insurance

JDSA is your partner in good health. We provide a choice of two affordable health insurance plans, as well as life insurance and long-term disability insurance for every person in the firm. We also offer voluntary access and enrollment in group dental insurance, voluntary life insurance, a Flexible Spending Plan (FSA) for both medical and dependent care reimbursement, and a Health Savings Account.

Retirement Plan

JDSA understands you want to save for the future. After six months of employment, the firm's 401(k) plan allows employees to make pre-tax salary contributions to the maximum amount allowed by law each year. Federal income taxes on these salary contributions are deferred. Each individual personally directs the investment of contributions through the plan's investment options.

Profit Sharing

JDSA gives back to its employees. Once an employee becomes eligible, the firm makes a profit-sharing contribution of 3% of an employee's gross salary each pay period. At the end of the year, the firm may also contribute additional profit sharing funds based on firm performance.

Time Off

JDSA believes in recharging the batteries. For attorneys with sufficient experience to determine the time and attention required to properly serve our clients’ needs, JDSA provides its attorneys with ultimate flexibility to take paid vacations and sick leave.

Partnership Track

The JDSA Associate to Partner Journey

JDSA recognizes associate contributions. Partnership eligibility is offered to associates based on a four-tier system designed to maximize value to the shareholders as well as recruiting, retaining, and training top talent. Throughout the system, expectations are well-defined to enhance the long-term success for both individual practitioners and the overall firm.

Sabbatical Program

JDSA supports an exceptional sabbatical program.

Shareholders are eligible to take six consecutive months of paid sabbatical after their 10th full year of employment with the firm.

Each shareholder is also allowed an additional six-month sabbatical approximately every five years thereafter.

One of the major benefits of JDSA’s sabbatical program is, we require the participating partners to take their full six months away from the office.

This necessitates the transfer of files to other attorneys in the firm, thus giving our clients exposure to other lawyers who also know and understand the client needs. For our younger attorneys, this fosters their experience.

Sabbatical time also provides an additional benefit for JDSA attorneys:

When the partner returns from sabbatical, it provides an opportunity for ongoing representation and direct contact with the clients, and their files that the younger attorney handled during the partner's absence.

JDSA's attorneys not only work extremely hard on behalf of our clients, but we play hard as well. Thanks to our sabbatical program, many of our partners have experienced multiple once-in-a-lifetime adventures that are generally reserved for retirement. This opportunity gives each of us a renewed outlook, thus better serving our clients and the firm.

Associate Support

JDSA is equally committed to our clients and to our employees. We encourage our attorneys and staff to take advantage of all that the surrounding environment has to offer. It is our belief this leads to higher quality of life. Our attorneys share in a common firm culture that emphasizes the goals of practicing law at challenging levels in a collegial atmosphere.

JDSA has an active mentor program. Mentors orient the associate to the firm and the legal profession, provide support, and act as coach and advocate. The mentor helps the associate develop and use good judgment, insight, and common sense.

While your mentor may or may not have the responsibility to delegate work, they can assist with maintaining quality control, suggest and approve educational opportunities, provide training on efficiency, client relations and file management; and evaluate the associate’s work product and general lawyering abilities.

JDSA is dedicated to recruiting exceptional attorneys. Our summer associate program is one of the most important elements in the firm's recruiting program. A significant portion of associates hired each year flow from the summer associates of previous years.

Associates Can Expect:

1. A mentor who will answer your questions regarding lawyer and non-lawyer issues.

2. A weekly meeting schedule to ensure consistent communication with your mentor.

3. Consistent feedback regarding your work, time management, and delegation.

4. Guidance from your mentor for improvement and learning opportunities.

5. Assistance from your mentor with your integration into the firm.
