BREAKING NEWS: Employees’ Missed Meal Periods
Beginning this Sunday, it will be against the law for Washington drivers to use hand-held cell phones while driving. This includes all electronic devices, even tablets, laptops and video games. Tickets for driving while using hand-held electronics will go on your record, and be reported to your insurance provider.

New Law Relating to Pregnancy Accommodations
The U.S. Department of Labor, Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) is not currently accepting electronic submissions of injury and illness logs and has issued a proposed rulemaking to extend the July 1 deadline for certain employers to electronically submit such data to the agency for posting online.
Poised To Advance Growth
Effective July 23, 2017, Washington employers with 15 or more employees must provide reasonable accommodations to their pregnant employees and may not discriminate against pregnant employees on the basis that the employer will have to provide these accommodations.

Court Upholds Verdict in Zamora v. Nationstar Case
On May 16, 2017, Washington State Governor Jay Inslee signed Senate Bill 5131 into law, initiating changes to the recreational and medical cannabis rules, which will become effective on July 23, 2017.
Volunteer Attorney of the Month
Earlier this year, the Eastern District Court upheld an important verdict in the Zamora v. Nationstar case. This is one of several cases where Clay Gatens, partner at JDSA, represents a class of borrowers who were locked out of their homes by their loan servicer after the borrowers defaulted on their loans prior to the completion of a foreclosure.
