Sabbatical
All shareholders are eligible to take six consecutive months of paid sabbatical after their 10th full year of employment with the firm. Each shareholder is also allowed an additional six-month sabbatical approximately every five years thereafter.
One of the major benefits of the firm's generous sabbatical program is that it is required that the participating partners take their full six months away from the office, necessitating transfer of their files to other attorneys in the firm. This gives our clients exposure to other lawyers who know and understand their business and needs, and creates immediate responsibility, client contact, and courtroom experience for our younger lawyers.
An additional benefit is that when the partner returns from sabbatical, it provides an opportunity for ongoing representation and direct contact with the clients, and their files, that the younger attorney handled during the partner's absence.
JDSA's attorneys not only work extremely hard on behalf of our clients, but we play hard as well. Thanks to our sabbatical program, many of our partners have experienced multiple once-in-a-lifetime adventures, generally reserved for retirement. Every one of our partners who has gone on sabbatical has traveled extensively with their families and come back refreshed and invigorated, with a renewed outlook, thus better serving their clients and the firm.
