Washington’s GMO Free Potatoes

On Behalf of | Aug 29, 2017 | Agricultural Law, Land Use, Environmental Law

As you reach for your next serving of Washington grown potatoes at the dinner table, rest assured, those potatoes are GMO free. This is good news for consumers who are sensitive about the use of genetically modified organisms or products containing them.

A recent article published on the Washington Ag Network website highlights that any genetic alterations on Washington State potatoes are performed via traditional breeding which is not GMO based.

“We export so much of our potatoes and our potato products overseas, and generally our Asian customers are much more sensitive about GMO products than here in the U.S.  So, for the most part we don’t invest really at all in any type of GMO work here in Washington State.”
